Robert Pattinson and Rupert Grint are both in the running to play Prince Harry (the real Prince Harry, not the Chosen One) in a movie.

Here's a nice interview from Harry Potter's Page with Harry Melling, who plays Harry's bad-boy cousin Dudley Dursley. Dudders may have to wear padding in the Deathly Hallows movies since Melling has suddenly lost his baby fat. And I don't think he had to use Petunia's wilted lettuce diet either.

JK Rowling bid for three tickets to see Stella McCartney’s Paris show at a Gala Auction in London, in June, to raise funds for the Raisa Gorbachev Foundation, and bought along two friends. “I’m working on something, but it’s not Harry Potter,” she said. “I need a Harry break.” A Stella McCartney fan, she said she loved the designer’s clothes because “they’re so wearable.”

Edit: OK, I have to say one thing. That is the ugliest Unicorn I've ever seen anywhere!!!

From Bluewater Productions:
Her name is forever associated with a certain boy wizard whom she created while waiting for a delayed train. Now, nearly half a billion books sold later, J.K. Rowling will be the subject on an upcoming issue of Bluewater Productions’ Female Force biography comic series.
Female Force: J.K. Rowling, scheduled for release in December, follows Rowling’s rags to riches story of a woman receiving government financial assistance through her ascendancy in becoming one of the world’s most recognizable writers.

You may have seen the videos floating around last week called "Harry Potter the Musical."
I saw them HERE. The two musical videos have been taken down now, but you can see the guy who played Harry in a short parody (people are laughing!)called Goin' Back as in "going back to Hogwarts. The soundtrack isn't that great, but it's pretty good. Look fast in case this disappears too.
But what was their evil purpose in creating these videos? They are just fans, and that's not an easy thing to be sometimes.
I wish someone could explain the difference between these videos and what the Wizard Rock kids do? Not to offend any fans ~ especially sorry to
saiphgrl!!! ~ It just doesn't seem right to me that some fans can call themselves "Draco and the Malfoys" and "Harry and the Potters" but these guys can't call their funny video "Harry Potter the Musical." I don't get it.
But I think they got the legal message loud and clear. Stay with this next video all the way to the end because I promise you will enjoy it! The song at the end starts about 3:14 minutes. It is priceless!!!

HP the Musical was written and produced in early 2009 by a bunch of college kids/recent grads through a non-profit student-run theatre company. It was a free show that ran for three nights (five performances) and will never be done again... but luckily we taped it so everyone can get a chance to enjoy its magical silliness. The songs were written by Darren Criss (who plays Harry Potter) and AJ Holmes (who plays piano in the band). The script was written by Matt Lang (who also directed the show), Nick Lang (who assistant directed and made the dragon puppet) and Brian Holden (who was busy working at a real job while the rest of us were making a goofy play). And now they are having to rename their Musical to avoid . . . *whispers* . . . legal issues. They are even asking fans to send in suggestions for a new name to the YouTube account of the creators StarKidPotter.
HP the Musical was a completely non-for-profit unofficial parody show made by Potter-fans for Potter-fans. All of us involved love the books immensely (and strongly encourage everyone to read them if you haven't) and it is with the utmost admiration that we celebrate and poke fun at them with this musical inspired by our very favorite stories.

I don't usually make two picture posts in a row but this is just too good to pass up.
J. K. Rowling attended the Raisa Gorbachev Foundation Gala this weekend, and the pictures are just . . . . well, you just tell me what you think, OK? I'm not anti-cleavage - I've got plenty of my own, thanks. And I'm not saying her dress isn't pretty or anything, but . . . there's sort of a pattern here. Like maybe too much of a good thing? Also, what's with the blood-red fingernails against the pale blue dress? That strikes me as sort of a touch of Bellatrix flair.

Who has Showtime?

According to This Story Tracey Ullman is going to do a parody of JKR on her show State of the Union this Sunday night:
This week the chief target of Ms. Ullman's derision is J.K. Rowling, seen visiting the U.S. to terrorize people and organizations who are alleged to have breached her Harry Potter copyright. Among her targets for lawsuits: a burly homeless man charged for impersonating Hagrid.

I love her basic black, white, and gray. Has Ullman also picked up on JKR's similarities to Snape? I love it that's she's British - this isn't just bashing from we lawless Americans.

By now you've all probably heard that Jamie Waylett, who plays Crabbe in the movies, has been arrested with some marijuana plants in his car, as well as his home. Apparently he was growing weed in his basement. Oh well, he's young and if we can forgive Michael Phelps the gold-medalist and President Obama for his youthful imbibing, then we can forgive Crabbe.
I just wish his law-breaking didn't lead to such obvious Slytherin jokes - I'm reading them everywhere today, unfortunately. It would be funnier if people would make "Fiendfyre" jokes since this is Crabbe... Got a match?
Finally - remember that really crappy version of a Japanese HBP Trailer from earlier in the year? Now there is a much better version on YouTube without the voice-over, and a super-hi-definition as well.

This is about an interview posted on the HAH website in which JKR says that the working title for Deathly Hallows for years was "The Hallows of Hogwarts" or "Hogwarts Hallows." She says in the interview that her lawyers had created a company called "Seabottom" that posted several bogus titles online (see list at the link) just to keep people guessing, but one of them was close to the actual name of Book Seven.
JKR: Yeah, I sent them a list of plausible titles, including the real one. Hallows of Hogwarts for years was going to be the title of the seventh, and it was wrong, just wrong.
MA: They aren't all of Hogwarts.
JKR: Exactly. It changed completely, so Deathly Hallows was definitely the right way to go. I like the title of Deathly Hallows.
This intrigues me because I sometimes disagree with my friend
Understand that I'm not writing this because I "dislike" Deathly Hallows as it is, because I do like it very much. I'm just curious about several things.

I left out a "plum" of a quote from my Best of JKR list last week, and that's not right since this had such a Christmasy theme! Therefore, this post is for
From the Trial Transcript, Day Three
I have a very strong view and my view --And from the Judge's Final Opinion, page 18 (even he seemed impressed!):
4 my view is that it is analogous to me making a cake and that in
5 the creation of this Lexicon, all the plums in my cake, as it
6 were. . .
I believe that
13 the contents of those books have been plundered
From Cendali's Summation:
It's incentivizing people who write about Harry
24 Potter to take less, to not just copy, as Ms. Rowling, once
25 again, eloquently put it, not taking the plums in her cake or
1 cherry-picking out the adorable wonderful clever things about
2 it and selling in her own. Not taking her plums; so taking
3 less, but doing more
She compared this taking of her work to plundering all of the “plums in [her]And that caused
cake.” (Tr. (Rowling) at 647:3-6).
"DE(DavidEnglish) did the judge really write that SVA 'plundered' JKR and stolen her 'plums'? That sounds so out of place in a legal document, I have to go back and read it again. It sounds so suggestive. Who knew that a legal judgement could be so sexy?So it occurred to me that there are two analogies going on here with the "Plundered Plums" reference. One is to the obvious character in Deathly Hallows who was owner of the "dirigible plums" (strange radishes) that no one was supposed to tread upon ~ Mr. Lovegood. I can see the analogy there - he would do anything to save his child, Luna, and JKR would say anything to save her supposedly stolen copyright (also compared to her child in the courtroom).
The other is from the nursery rhyme, Little Jack Horner, the boy who stole the Christmas pie. There's also the famous William Carlos Williams poem about the stolen plums which also seems appropriate to quote here.

JKR's quotes about Fandom in 2008, mainly from Accio Quote and the Harry: A History website. The last two have different sources.
I had people as early as Prisoner of Azkaban, the third book. I remember a woman saying to me : "I think Snape loves Lily". I was "Oh my God what the hell did I give away ?". But so people, people got stuff very unnervingly right. Often. Yeah.
~ JKR interview on receiving the James Joyce Award
It’s very strange to think that you must have been pretty much the target audience, ten years ago, so you’ve really… you have been reading this book all through these ten years so you are… You are my people ! No, I don’t mean in any political way, I’m not trying to lead you to an uprise or something… Yes, it is odd to sit in this room and to think that Harry Potter would be examined in that particular way and in a room with people who are exactly the age that Harry was, really.
~ JKR interview on receiving the James Joyce Award
...it makes me enormously happy that people continue reading and enjoying the books. They grew older with Harry Potter. But I never thought adults were potential readers.
~ Interview in Spanish newspaper El Pais
...the other day I was on the street and a woman came up to me and asked if I was J. K. Rowling, I said yes. She then said: “You deserve everything you have.” I don’t think she was talking about the money...
~ Interview in Spanish newspaper El Pais
...it's not about love of a story or even wishing to spoil a story. It's become something that people want to be attached to because it's the quickest way they can see to get some publicity for themselves or notoriety for themselves and you have this fringe - I can't dignify them with the word fan because I think if it wasn't Harry Potter it would be Star Wars or it would be something high-profile enough that they could just get a little bit of face-time. ... it's really got nothing to do with Harry Potter...
~ JKR in Vault 27 on HAH
... I'd become used to the fact that people were so invested in this world, and felt such ownership of this world that I was not on a pedestal at all in their eyes, I was right in the thick of the fight. And it's uncomfortable on and off the pedestal, so you get used to it."
~ JKR in Vault 27 on HAH
...if a fight comes to me, I will not duck it. So, if people want information on my characters, then they have to accept that I'm going to give them the information on the characters. And if they don't like it, that's the nature of fiction. You have to accept someone else's world because they made that world, so they probably know a little better than you do what goes on there.
~ JKR in Vault 27 on HAH
I was not at all new to the concept of fan entitlement because that had now been going on since, I think, around 1999. As the Snape Debate hotted up, I would occasionally receive mail from fans that was instructing me on my characters. And you know what, that's very endearing when it comes from a younger person, and it's less endearing when it comes from an older person.
~ JKR in Vault 27 on HAH
At no point have I indicated, or would indicate, that any of these fan websites is a "favorite."

~Who Practices Groupthink???~
(Hey, this song has a cool rattlesnake sound to it also)
Groupthink is a psychological phenomenon that can occur in groups of people. Rather than critically evaluating information, the group members begin to form quick opinions that match the group consensus. Groupthink seems to occur most often when a respected or persuasive leader is present, inspiring members to agree with his or her opinion. Groupthink is sometimes positive but is more often seen in a negative light, particularly in the United States and other countries that value individual opinion. Mass hysteria can be seen as an extreme example of groupthink.

Was it really only a year ago that J. K. Rowling and Warner Bros. sued RDR Books over the Harry Potter Lexicon on Halloween?
It seems more like an eternity, and alot of phrases come to mind. Dark night of the soul. Sold their soul to the company store. In League with the Devil. The Twilight Zone. Through the Looking-Glass. Down the Rabbit Hole. Down the Drain. Boiled in Oil. Keelhauled. Run Amok. Attacked by Harpies. Between Scylla and Charybdis. Nibbled by Geese. Drawn and Quartered. Chastised. Burned at the stake. Run out of Dodge.
But that's really giving the "other side" too much credit. They never actually chased us away, or kept us from writing one word we wanted to write. Of course, people have truly been hurt and reputations have been smeared by lies and innuendoes, and I don't think anyone understands the damage that their constant barrage of negativity has done to people. However, they never really had the big "gotcha" moment in which RDR and Steve Vander Ark were turned penniless out into the street, no matter how many times that was discussed with glee and longing. Many times things didn't turn out the way the Lexicon Haters thought it would - or should I say, every time. And sometimes things became so absurd we had to laugh at the nonsense.
Speaking of which, and in honor of this auspicious date, David English on Leaky Cauldron has made the following colorful suggestion:
It might be nice if the Potter Puppet Pals did a reenactment of the case with Snape as SVA, Hermione as Jo, Fudge as RDR, McGonagall as Dale Cendali, Lucius Malfoy as Falzone/Hammer, and Dumbledore as Judge Patterson. "What's that ticking sound? Oh, it's a Cease & Desist letter. Just ignore it and it'll go away." *BOOM*
Well, I think we can do better than that ~ what are your suggestions? How about Snape as Hammer, for one thing? *evil* I seem to recall a bit of snark from him. And Cendali is not the stoical McGonagall - I can think of a few other characters who fit her persona alot better. Please give your suggestions and have fun with it!

Yesterday an excerpt of an interview with JKR was released from Melissa A.'s book Harry: A History. You can read the entire piece on Here.
As you might expect, I have a few problems with what she said.
( These are My Opinions based on the Way I Read the Canon and I'm Sorry In Advance If This Offends Anyone )
One more piece of Melissa trivia: She did an interview with Staten Island Live about "Pod People" or those who do Podcasts. I'll just post an excerpt of the article because it speaks for itself:
Staten Island Live: Pod People
Ironically, what Madden dubs podcasting's "democratic reach" also could be its downfall.Edited to Add: Melissa later said she was either misunderstood or the writer edited too much or something. Read It Here.
"Because of the ease of doing it, a lot of people will wind up doing it who don't have talent and don't have anything particular to say," agrees DJ Paul Bruno, 30, a self-proclaimed "rock snob" from Shore Acres who incorporated a podcast into his "Unblinking Ear" music blog six months ago.
In short, without enforced quality standards, the rambling results (sometimes three hours in length) are often more fun for the D.I.Y. crowd making them than the people listening on their iPod.
But then again, duds come and go in every artistic medium, points out onetime Annadale resident Melissa Anelli, 28, co-founder of Pottercast, a J.K. Rowling-endorsed show dedicated to the "Harry Potter" book and film franchise.
"It's the same thing as free market competition. If you're better, the cream will rise," says Anelli, a former Advance reporter whose program rates 30,000 to 40,000 downloads per episode. "That happens in television. That happens in theater."
While big audiences -- and profits -- are still a dream for indie operators like "Degocast," "Pottercast" has attracted sponsors since six months after it debuted in August 2005. Still, that revenue isn't paying anybody's rent, says Anelli, webmistress of The-Leaky-Cauldron.org, the parent site of "Pottercast." The offshoot only brings in as much as 5 percent of the site's revenue.
"It's a nice cushion. We're able to afford a new mic when somebody's mic breaks," says Anelli, whose current sponsor is Audible Inc., a division of Amazon.com, that sells digital audio editions of books, newspapers and magazines.

Court Frees Indian Film from Harry Potter Spell
By Vipul Tripathi
NEW DELHI (Reuters) - An Indian court has cleared a Bollywood film accused of plagiarising the "Harry Potter" brand, saying viewers would not confuse the international film and book series with "Hari Puttar: A Comedy of Terrors."
Dismissing the plea against the Hindi-language film, Delhi High Court said Warner Bros., which owns the rights to Harry Potter movies, had made "belated attempt to trip up" the film.
"Viewed from any angle, the plaintiffs have failed to establish a prima facie case for the grant of an ad interim injunction," Justice Reva Khetrapal said in an order on Monday obtained by Reuters.
. . . "Justice Reva Khetrapal said the class of viewers was such that they would not get confused with the title of the film," Pratibha Singh, the defence counsel, told Reuters.
"A Hindi-speaking, rural child would not have heard of Harry Potter, while the English-speaking, urban viewer would be so well versed with Harry Potter that there would be no reason for them to be confused," Singh quoted the judge as saying.

This is so awesome! A new comment from John Nettleship, poor man, about his connection to Snape!
From this Guardian article about famous people and their teachers:
JK RowlingRead more about John Nettleship:
Wyedean comprehensive, Chepstow, 1976-1983. John Nettleship, science
Joanne has said that no characters in Harry Potter are based more than 10% on any one person. I suppose the fact that I used to have long, black hair, is just a coincidence. To be honest, I think Snape, especially in the later books, is very like me.
Joanne would have been about 12 when I taught her. Her days at Wyedean were pretty miserable. The school was like a prison, and then her mum came down with MS. Anne Rowling worked as my technician, and Joanne would come and wait at the science block for her mum so they could walk home together. It was obvious the child was very concerned about her mother - preoccupied. She was a very quiet child. I don't remember her ever answering a question - she would go to great lengths to avoid responding. I think she was tucking it all away in her head to use later in her stories.
Canon Severus Site: Articles about Nettleship
Scotsman: The J.K. Rowling Story
My Essay: Apothecary Snape (Section Nettles, Nettesheim, Nettleship)
Nettle references in the books: The Alchemist Agippa Von Nettesheim is on Ron's Chocolate Frog Card in Book One; Snape made the Nettle Wine as part of the the final protection for the Philosopher's Stone in Book One; Snape draws the "spiky D" on Harry's paper in OotP which some believe is the thorn rune of protection; Harry sees nettles growing all around the house where his parents died and protecting the plaque about their sacrifice.
Nettleship has been interviewed at length for some of the TV specials about JKR's life, and has only had good things to say about her. So it came as a surprise last year when JKR said a few things about him while on her North American Tour. This is from her stop in New Orleans last October:
Transcript
Dwayne Lockett, of Alice Harte Elementary, asked what advice Rowling could give students who wanted to write, especially if their grades weren't the best.
"If you'd seen my grades in chemistry." Rowling said. "That's why Snape teaches Potions."
Then, after the audience groaned, she said, "Don't say awwww! He deserved it! We can all think of teachers we'd like revenge on."
