Pictures of Young Dumbledore played by Toby Regbo from Snitchseeker. There are pictures and scans of an interview by Jamie Campbell Bower HERE in the Snitchseeker Gallery.

What do you think? Does this look like Young Michael Gambon?

Robert Pattinson and Rupert Grint are both in the running to play Prince Harry (the real Prince Harry, not the Chosen One) in a movie.
The Improper.com: Who Should Play Prince Harry in "The Spare" (no joke - real title as in "heir and a spare" William & Harry)

Helen McCrory, our Narcissa Malfoy, says quite a lot about the Deathly Hallows Movies without actually saying anything at all, probably due to her cast-iron secrecy clause with WB. Good work, Helen - you won't get sued, and you sound so pleasant all the same!
UK Rotten Tomatoes: Exclusive ~ Helen McCory Updates on Harry Potter 7

Here's a nice interview from Harry Potter's Page with Harry Melling, who plays Harry's bad-boy cousin Dudley Dursley. Dudders may have to wear padding in the Deathly Hallows movies since Melling has suddenly lost his baby fat. And I don't think he had to use Petunia's wilted lettuce diet either.

Fleur in Paris!
Snitchseeker: Clémence Poésy attended the Chanel show during Paris Fashion Week

And also JKR: According to the London Telegraph: J. K. Rowling dressed in black and purple was seen at Stella McCartney's show during Paris Fashion Week, and she made a statement about what she's writing these days. People who were excited by her Twitter last week that she was busy with pen and paper may be disappointed.

JK Rowling bid for three tickets to see Stella McCartney’s Paris show at a Gala Auction in London, in June, to raise funds for the Raisa Gorbachev Foundation, and bought along two friends. “I’m working on something, but it’s not Harry Potter,” she said. “I need a Harry break.” A Stella McCartney fan, she said she loved the designer’s clothes because “they’re so wearable.”

JKR Twitters and other Potter News

  • Sep. 29th, 2009 at 11:32 AM
PotionSwirl

JKR has a new Twitter Account, but vows that she isn't going to use it much because she prefers pen and paper. Does that mean she is actually writing a novel? Um, that would probably be a "no." Is anyone going to ask her questions on Twitter?  And will she answer? Probably also a "no."

Steve Vander Ark is touring the Heartland in October and heading to New York in November, so maybe you can catch one of his talks at the following locations. (RDR has two of the dates wrong there - Oct 1st and 2nd are Thursday and Friday, so I fixed those accordingly).

Schedule Under the Cut... )
Matt Lewis and Evanna Lynch (Neville and Luna, respectively) were out and about releasing balloons tagged with special tickets from the Millenium Bridge in London for some sort of Deathly Hallows competition. They both talked about DH, but in rather vague terms:

"The big stuff is still to come," she told the BBC. "I like that because if it's all at the start it's a bit of an anti-climax, but they're keeping that bit until the end."

... Lewis: “I've done a few days which went fantastically,” he said. "You wouldn't be able to tell it was the last in the series because the atmosphere is electric –everybody is having such a great time.”

That star-kid Darren Criss from "A Very Potter Musical" is going to appear in the new TV series Eastwick based on The Witches of Eastwick. His first actual appearance is October 7th. This will be good for his career since his rating on IMDB has gone up over 300% in the past week. Here is his message from StarKidPotter:

S'Up From Azkatraz ?

  • Jul. 27th, 2009 at 8:49 AM
Castle

My posts here may be hit or miss for the next two weeks as we are on countdown to Law School, with packing night and day, and my house slowly piling up with extra furniture and stuff from relatives for my daughter's new apartment. My husband is fighting off empty nest syndrome while obsessing about moving trucks and where to get extra packing boxes. I'm just wondering where my daughter is going to put all her extra clothes and shoes.

I didn't attend the Azkatraz conference in San Francisco of course, but I'd love to hear from anyone who did! Drop us a line and let us know what happened.

Here are a few newsie items about Azkatraz that might amuse you all:

Countdown to Half-Blood Prince

  • Jul. 11th, 2009 at 8:24 PM
NaNoWriMo
~~ I wrote this post once today, so you are not seeing double. The code went berserk and the margins went crazy on me just because I edited one little punctuation mark. Then my husband and I went out to dinner for his birthday, which is tomorrow, and I just got back to work on this.  I hope this post works!

I'll leave this thread up between now and Tuesday, and then do a chat thread on Tuesday night for the midnight showings. That way if anyone wants to drop in at 3 a.m. to discuss the movie we'll have a spoiler thread for that.

I have made a ton of new icons, but I'm not putting them up until Monday or Tuesday. However, if you see any new ones here they are free for the taking - just credit  [info]nettlebrew

[info]lemon_ashwinder and I along with others on HPN are passing the time playing the Five-Word Game, and things have taken a turn for the controversial. Are Harry's eyes really black? Did his mother really buy him a tiny black frockcoat when he was a baby? Did James not pass the DNA test? If you can be snarky in five words while hopefully ticking off certain people about Harry's gene pool, please join us.

There are a few interviews and new videos worth posting after all, but with spoilers of course.

A long interview from The Scotsman with Helen McCrory who plays Narcissa from Snitchseeker:

"Don't reach down for your popcorn, because by the time you do, I could be off the screen, in Half-Blood Prince I am literally like, whoa, there she goes! But everyone was like that. In our first scene, Helena Bonham Carter and I are rolling past this blue screen, and we knock on the door and Tim Spall comes out.

SPOILERS!!!

Behind the Scenes with Snape, Draco, Fenrir, and Bellatrix.
Harry and Snape actually have a conversation, which is a vast improvement from the book.

In honor of Karl Malden who died this week (when will it end?) I'm honoring the Golden Age of Cop Shows, the 1970s. There was a detective show for every night of the week, and there was a different type of cop to appeal to everyone. All of these have great instrumental theme songs. They don't make shows like this anymore.

This episode of Streets of San Francisco has about 20 famous guest stars!

This is from a month-old interview in the Irish University Observer that Alan Rickman gave after he won the James Joyce award in Dublin. It was worth waiting for!

Photobucket

1. “When you live in London, as I do, being famous isn’t really a problem. People just stare at the pavement so they don’t really come up to you. In New York, weirdly, there is no class system. People just walk past you and say ‘like your work’, directly and honestly and walk on. But it difficult being famous and when you’re English.
There is an idea that you have to get back in your little bus. ‘Get back in your box’ should be the national emblem.”

2. “Fame is all relative. I mean, when you are with Johnny Depp (with whom Rickman starred with in Sweeney Todd and in the upcoming Alice and Wonderland), you realise ‘I’ve nothing to worry about,” he says, “I mean, sometimes I even fly economy!”

3. “I was very wary about it (playing Col. Brandon in Sense and Sensibility). I happen to love Jane Austen. When I first read her work, it was that type of moment where you wanted to show it to people and tell them how beautiful it is,”

4. “I said to Jo Rowling, ‘Look, I can’t play (Snape) unless I know him’. She then gave me this elliptical piece of information that I didn’t really understand at first. It was information she hadn’t told anyone else, not even her sister, but it gave me what I needed to take on Snape.”

5. "...I like limitations. They are good for a role. They help apply imagination to the story,” Rickman continues, before drolly adding, “Like with my rubber head in Galaxy Quest.”

6. “I never watch [my films]. Genuinely, I’m not just saying it. All I can see is my mistakes. In theatre, I can’t watch myself or be objective, so it suits me better in some ways.”

7. “I love new writing. I love seeing what’s going on in a writers head and you go, ‘Where the hell did that come from?!”

8. “Well, I believe what is going to happen is it will be my head on an animated caterpillar. I mean, Tim Burton just has a mind like a fairground. I aim to do everything he ever does. I am a crawling sycophant to him!”

9. "...We’re fighting with Disney at the moment… They are worried about having a character [the caterpillar] that smokes,” he adds, dramatically rolling his eyes to heaven.

10. "Life has shifting horizons so you might as well keep swimming.”

News from the Potterverse

  • Apr. 9th, 2009 at 3:59 PM
HermioneSlap

JKR has decided to stop being a patron for the Scottish Multiple Sclerosis Society, mentioning some sort of power struggle going on between the London management and the Scottish group. It's sad but many charities have infighting and politics.

Link and video about the story: J. K. Rowling Quits As Patron of MS Charity

By now you've all probably heard that Jamie Waylett, who plays Crabbe in the movies, has been arrested with some marijuana plants in his car, as well as his home. Apparently he was growing weed in his basement. Oh well, he's young and if we can forgive Michael Phelps the gold-medalist and President Obama for his youthful imbibing, then we can forgive Crabbe.

I just wish his law-breaking didn't lead to such obvious Slytherin jokes - I'm reading them everywhere today, unfortunately. It would be funnier if people would make "Fiendfyre" jokes since this is Crabbe... Got a match?

Finally - remember that really crappy version of a Japanese HBP Trailer from earlier in the year? Now there is a much better version on YouTube without the voice-over, and a super-hi-definition as well.

Again, it really bugs the life out of me that Dumbledore and Harry can Disapparate from the Astronomy Tower. Grrrrr ... Hermione should slap a bitch at WB.

Something in the Air, Fernando!

Lots of interesting stuff ~

By now most of you have heard that J.K. Rowling sat by Michelle Obama last night at a Dinner for the G-20 Summit. I hope we at least get a picture of that.

Then there is this intriguing post from [info]flyingfoxy who seems to have gotten a little preview of what's in store for the Lexicon's British Book Tour and Beyond. We'll have to check with Steve Vander Ark on that one!

Movie News:
According to Cinemablend there is supposedly a new trailer for HBP that was shown yesterday that shows a great deal more than we have seen so far. If it is released online, I'll post it here of course.

Then in Total Film Magazine, Tom Felton had this to say about the Sectumsempra scene:

"It was great. We spent a week in this misty bathroom set, rolling around in the water having all sorts of fights. Its a longer sequence than it is than in the book." The article continues: "There is blood-but also some fleshing out. This film develops the character further than before," he says. "We take the chance to explain why he's such a complete cretin, that he's not just doing it for the sake of doing it."
Rhys Ifans Talks about playing Mr. Lovegood in Deathly Hallows as a "really great guy." That's in the eye of the beholder - some would call Mr. Lovegood a traitor.

Leaky Cauldron reports that David Yates has chosen cinematographer Bruno Delbonnel to use a hand-held camera look on Deathly Hallows. We can only speculate on what that might be like. Hwyla wrote on HPN that it could turn out looking like "Blair Witch Harry" and we don't want that!

And finally, today is the day that Harry Potter Network unveils our new Fan Fiction Forum, moderated by our dear Olwen with me riding posse as her sidekick deputy.  I know all you writers are really going to enjoy this, especially our new Contest!  See a preview under the Cut...

Good-Bye Mr. Roark, Farewell Secret Agent Man

Spike-RIP
Farewell to two great actors.

Ricardo Montalban, played the ever-suave and hunky guy. I never cared whether he played the good guy or the bad guy - he was cool. He wasn't just the enigmatical Mr. Roark on Fantasy Island, he was Kahn in Star Trek!

The other death is that of Patrick McGoohan, British star of many Walt Disney movies, such as Thomasina and The Scarecrow of Romney Marsh. He is perhaps best known for playing in the strange television show, The Prisoner, as well as The Secret Agent.

Farewell to the Great Paul Newman

  • Sep. 28th, 2008 at 2:37 AM
NaNoWriMo

I hate writing these obituaries! But this one doesn't seem as sad as some do because
Paul Newman led a long and happy life doing exactly what he wanted to do most of the time, and he gave so much back to the world. He was one of a kind!

the second is a slideshow about his relationship with his wife, Joanne Woodward.

My good friend [info]bnmc2005 wrote in the [info]alanrickman community that in a recent interview in Pelham, NY, the great Alan Rickman had made some profound statements about the relationship between the artist and the audience, and the fact that the middlemen in the movie industry only care about the money.

He was prophetic, indeed.

We've certainly seen evidence of that greed over the last two days, with WB postponing one of Rickman's movies - Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince - until next summer just based on the money.  WB has thrown the entire movie industry into a flurry of changes just based on their own unapologetic greed.  Oh, but don't forget they still "love" the fans and we should be grateful. *eyeroll*

Here's the video and a short transcript of the best quotes from AR's Pelham interview. He's so awesome and brave to just tell it like it is.

AR: ...I'm at one end of the story... as an actor, and you guys are at the other end as deciding the stories that you want to go and hear told, and somewhere in the middle are a manipulative greedy bunch of pigs. (Audience laughs - Alan does not)

Moderator: It's a big middle.

AR: . . . who just want bigger houses and more airplanes and cars. And I guess it's a bit like, you know, what government do you want ~ You've just got to stand up and say you're going to fight for it, if you want to have a rich culture: It's yours and it's mine. And it's not theirs.

. . . This is exciting to me to be in a beautiful old theater absolutely filled with people who have just had a story told to them. You're not being manipulated at all, and I hope you each had your own relationship with that story. You know, we could go out with this microphone now and find out who thought what about all the characters in the story, 'cause God knows it's not just about wine - it's about people.

I think that's a big fight on, which is part of the life. (applause from audience)

A great movie star died yesterday at the age of 70 - John Phillip Law.

He played a blind angel in "Barbarella," a young man seeking revenge in the western "Death Rides a Horse," a Russian sailor in "The Russians are Coming, The Russians are Coming," and the mythical figure Sinbad from the Arabian Nights in "The Golden Voyage of Sinbad."

Obituary Here

LA Times Slideshow of Pictures

I was sorry to hear of his passing because I've always enjoyed his movies, two of which remind me strongly of Harry Potter. For one thing, John Phillip Law has these green eyes that are quite distinctive . . .
