I was so happy to read this - perhaps I can avoid dementia after all:
Coffee May Lower Risk of Alzheimer's Risk

I was also relieved that police in Gastonia, North Carolina, caught this so-called "spree killer" who was terrorizing the small town of Gaffney, South Carolina. I was terrified by this because my daughter is getting ready to move to Columbia and this guy was rumored to be moving south. The whole thing was creepy - he was just randomly shooting people for fun. I actually spent one day listening to the police scanner, and they were following every lead from kids shooting off fireworks in the woods, to strangers driving through town.
Even Though Threat is Gone, Emotional Scars Linger in Cherokee County.

George R. R. Martin, author of the Song of Ice and Fire Books, and otherwise known on Livejournal as [info]grrm, is in Helsinki for Finncon, a celebration of Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Anime. Yesterday [info]grrmwrote about visiting the Sveaborg, which he referred to as a "great island fortress" and from these Pictures it's easy to see why it would inspire him.

Congratulations to Al Franken and the entire State of Minnesota on his Swearing In as Senator Number 60 for the Dems.

My nephew wondered on Facebook the other day how long it would be until Michael Jackson rose from the grave as a Zombie. It appears he didn't even wait until the burial because CNN picked up his ghost on camera!

And if that's not enough, someone has Seen his Face in a Birch Tree Stump in Stockton, California.

Photobucket The Paranormal World is also mourning the death of their own enigmatical icon: Writer John Keel author of The Mothman Prophecies. He apparently died penniless and basically alone. Edit: Please read the comment  below by his friend, Loren Coleman. I sincerely only mean to honor Mr. Keel and was just sorry to hear that he did not have an easy life towards the end in spite of the  movie based on his life's work starring Richard Gere.  I doubt the movie studio paid him half enough for his story, which is all I meant in my original post. I'm a huge fan of both Mr. Coleman and Mr. Keel, and only wanted to memorialize his work in a week when Michael Jackson got all the attention.

I'm happy because people told me all my life that coffee wasn't good for me, but I drank it anyway. So I feel vindicated.

no risk of altzheimer here, I drink coffee the whole day and night if possible.

MJ's face in a treestump? what wrong with the rosted bread or the sweatstain on the teeshirt? Elvis has been there often.
And will it bee on primetime CNN again.
Aftr 14 days I am glad when the whole houlabalou is over.
It got more media attention then the death of Kennedy, Churchill & princes Diana combined. As if he really was that important.

Here in the U.S. they had it on the music channels, the news channels, and even the networks showed the entire thing. But last year there were plenty of times that the networks decided that Presidential speeches weren't important enough to break away from soap operas.

I thought parts of it were really nice, such as when Brooke Shields talked about being childhood friends with MJ, and she quoted the Little Prince. And Jermaine Jackson sang a beautiful song! But I'm sure there will be a bunch of tell-all books about his weirdness from anyone who ever worked for him, so it's good for the family they were able to have a dignified funeral before all that begins.

I watched most of the tribute and I agree I thought parts of it were really nice. I thought brooke Shields was great. I loved her story about asking him "Yo, what's up with the glove?" I thought the daughter speaking was pretty heartbreaking too.

I saw that video with MJ's supposed ghost. I have no idea what is really on there but I will tell you I got the shivers seeing that. I went on a plantation tour many years ago and one of them was supposedly haunted. I had goosebumps on my arms when I walked in the place. A psychic lady told me that is a sign of sensing the presence of a ghost. I have no idea whether that is true but I got goosebumps seeing that video. Cue twilight zone music now.

Oh, believe me I think some places feel haunted! There's a Civil War battlefield near Nashville called Stones River where hundreds of men died and even though I visited there on a pretty sunny day I got chills up my spine. I didn't expect to have that reaction to the place at all, but as we were walking around I kept looking over my shoulder. It was creepy.

There's a place down in Carrolton, Alabama, that has a haunted courthouse with the "face" of a convict that was burned into the window during a lightning strike. It's just a cute little country town out in the middle of nowhere, but there is something truly weird and haunting about that courthouse. Gives me chills just writing about it.

Your story about Carrolton reminded me of one of the stories of the haunted plantation. Supposedly a woman who lived in the home died looking out the window waiting for her husband to return from the Civil War. They had pictures of her face in the window and all sorts of pictures of beings in the house. I got chills again just typing this.

I have to say when I went on that tour I didn't know that home was supposed to be haunted and the woman on the tour who pointed out my goosebumps was the one who alerted me to the fact that there were ghosts in the home. I have had some other weird experiences like that so I am not one to rule out or laugh off the existence of ghosts.

I wouldn't be surprised if MJ returned to Neverland if that is what is seen in the video. I heard that Larry King, Lou Dobbs and the other anchors were talking about this for a long time that night. I am sorry I missed that night on CNN.

Writers do not make a living wage!
It is a myth that writers make lots of money from their books or from movies.

Keel never had much money from his writings. So when he got a little from his book being adapted into the 2002 film, he paid off some debts, bought a little Toyota and took friends out to dinner. That was about it.

Sorry for the loss of your friend. His insights will be missed.

Re: Writers do not make a living wage!
Loren: Oh, how well I know that writers are not well-paid. Some of my best friends are writers, and in fact, so am I.

And I realize from your posts on Cryptomundo that John Keel had lots of expensive health problems, too. Writers don't get major medical plans (or anything) along with the privilege of writing books. I was only referring to the money he made from the sale of the book to the movie company, but believe me I know how fast money can slip away in our society.

I'm a huge fan of both yourself and Mr. Keel, and I appreciate you dropping by my journal. Believe me, I only meant to honor his memory because he was truly original and told some fascinating stories. I'm sure you will keep his memory alive for years to come.

Note: For those not familiar with Loren Coleman, he runs a great website called Cryptomundo and is a frequent guest-commentator on the History Channel show Monsterquest. He is also a world famous writer on the subject of Bigfoot and other cryptozoological mysteries.
