Lexicon Update: No News is No News

Snape-Sun
There isn't much to report about the Lexicon case yet - we are just waiting for either a settlement or for the Judge to give a verdict. However, if you want a good laugh, check out this new website which has lots of quotes about the case:

Fandomentalism

You'll see a few familiar names there, ahem . . . There's a place for people to post comments about each quote.

And since I have nothing else to write about and WB won't even release any photographs from the HBP movie and save us from boredom, here is a video my kids watch every day because they think it is hilarious, but it's probably not suitable for very young children. I cannot explain exactly why this is funny, but it is. Some of you may have seen this already . . .

Man, that was warped. My three-year-old daughter came in when I was watching it, and insisted on watching it a second time, and then wanted to see it a third. To her, she just sees it as a cartoon about unicorns and a candy mountain and singing letters--she reads it on that surface letter without understanding irony or whatnot. I couldn't take watching a third time. Egads.

I admit that it's warped, which is why my kids like it. I apologize for not putting a warning for those of you with younger children.

My youngest tells me that kids at school have it memorized and play around doing the voices. He's going into seventh grade and they like anything that's ridiculous. There's also a sequal to it on YouTube somewhere.

It's done by someone who finds David English very quotable, don't you think? :)

Hmmm
That was frickin hilarious. I think this is great for kids to watch. Teach em that scepticism is healthy...Could save you a kidney or two. LOL!

So what's the general tone on this fandomentalism? Is it pro-JKR or pro-SVA? Is it a bish-bosher-basher like that certain hallowed place that shall remain nameless? Haven't had a chance to look yet but will take your word for it. Personally, I've grown weary of the speculation and non-expert interpretations of the law that are being presented as "facts" and "the truth." Bring on Judge Patterson please. Why is it taking so long?

Re: Hmmm
Fandomentalism seems to be a collection from both sides in a hodgepodge, but I'm glad someone is saving this stuff for posterity!

I don't know why it's taking so long with the Lexicon trial. Maybe Judge Patterson is on holiday?

Re: Hmmm
I don't think it's really taking sides. They're taking comments from all camps to show how insane this whole thing has gotten. :)

Yep, I'll agree it's pretty dang weird. But I'm tired of music videos and politics.

My kids have been watching that relentlessly for years now. There's another one they really like too. I will have to look it up.

I'm glad to hear I'm not alone. *lol* I hear it's popular on Facebook, too, and they have those little "Flair" buttons with pictures and quotes from Charlie.

Nope, you're not alone with Charlie or Facebook. I have seen the "Flair" buttons and the bumperstickers. The whole Facebook thing fascinates me; it has it's good and bad points. Nevertheless, it is a valuable "resource guide" for any parent of a teenager.

I think it's important to know what is going on with the teen culture. Luckily, my daughter is not secretive and is happy to tell me every single thing they are talking about whether it interests me or not. *lol* My older son does Facebook and looks up guitar chords and that's about it for the computer. My youngest plays Runescape and makes little videos to put on YouTube, but he also loves HomestarRunner. We've all seen those cartoons a thousand times. I admit I am a fan of Strongbad and the Cheat.

That was a disturbing video, on quite a few levels. But I guess if you detach yourself a little and look at it from a middle school perspective, there's (stupid) humor to be found.

Fandomentalism had me laughing a bit though. :D The extent each of us go in our obsessions... Harry Potter fans used to scare me, until I realized I'd somehow become one of them. O.o
[info]rattlesnakeroot wrote:

Yes, I admit it's stupid, but the punchline is based on that urban legend about people knocking someone out and harvesting their organs. But you wouldn't expect it in a weird YouTube cartoon about unicorns and Candy Mountain. It's sort of a Pied Piper kind of tale.

And yes, some of those quotes on Fandomentalism are priceless.

I noticed the lion's share of the crazy quotes especially the batshit insane ones belong to Davidenglish. Nice that he is carving out his own niche in fandom. LOL I noticed quite a few familiar names. I'm not in there so I guess I haven't said anything crazy yet. LOL That's good.
Charlie the unicorn, the other two unicorns have really annoying voices "Candy Mountain, Charlie, Charlie, Charlie!!" GACK!!

Freggy: Yes - I've seen the sequal, and I think one day we watched the Spanish version. I had this screen open earlier today and my kids had to sit down and watch it again.

You are the very person I was thinking of when I posted this. *lol* I knew you'd already know about it.

Though my faves are the last couple of folks, who seem to believe RDR is a person, lol.
[info]rattlesnakeroot wrote:

RDR has sort of a double meaning: both RDR Books, the business, as well as Roger Rapoport the owner. It's impossible to know exactly what DavidEnglish is talking about exactly when he uses that term. Perhaps the "sum of all evil"? *lol*

more on fandomentalism
well, some of the quotes can stand alone, but I'm concerned that many of the ones I saw on there are so divorced from their context that they seen weirder and more disjointed than they are. I don't think the site is very useful, or contributes to greater understanding of issues. However, I guess that it's funny in a way.
[info]a_waffling wrote:

Re: more on fandomentalism
I agree: I also find it quite amusing. I guess: with more context: their would be less fun, as that is at least partially due to the fact that the quotes seem that weird and disjointed. And as ther are links provided for the sources of the quotes: one can check the "real" context.

I guess: no-one will be able to replace DavidEnglish with his LL postings as most-quoted person in Fandomentalism, but well, I'm already waiting to see what will be the first passage written by me that ends up there, and with which tags and which headline, and if I ever should end up quoted there: I assume it might help me to see me in at least one additional perspective.

Shut up, you imbeciles!

Charlie has no permission form to go to Candy Mountain. And besides, he has an essay to write on the dangers of peer pressure, plus detention herding Aberforth's goats to the meadow.

There I am. I had to think because I wrote that a few months ago. I haven't posted on Leaky in ages. Actually, since I read the trial transcripts, I rather have a bit more respect for RDR books.
[info]aredwitch wrote:

There aren't a lot of little boys named Shane but whenever I hear the name, I always think of that line. That and "I love you Mr. Shane." That was a great movie; back from the days when a movie was driven by plots not special effects.

Those two little unicorns remind me of the twins from The Shining.
I read somewhere once that religious wars were just fandom wars with just more tanks.
The way DH and the fandom went reminded of this show I once watched:
