Rest in Peace For At Least One Day

  • May. 8th, 2008 at 1:53 AM
MoonDream

The last two days have been . . . well . . . let's just say I'm tired of typing.

So here's a post just for fun because unless there is major breaking news,
I may take tomorrow off from the Blog-o-sphere.
.

First we have "Mr. Bill Goes to Court" from Saturday Night Live.

Next: From Buffy the Vampire Slayer ~
Spike Sings a Song

Do take a break and do something different tomorrow! We'll find our news ourselves (or whine for you to come back and get us caught up, LOL).

Aw, thanks! I'll be around, but maybe wait till tomorrow to post anything serious.

And none of you really whine about anything. *lol*

Real life is calling me - it's only a week till my son graduates from high school and I was supposed to get some graduation announcements typed, printed, and sent out to relatives out of town. Right now he's doing one of his last big things before graduation - the AP college-bound English exam. Then one more exam on Friday and he is finished!!! I might take him out to lunch today.

Also, I am so behind on planting my garden, and I really need to go to the garden center and pick up the plants before all the good varieties are gone.

AP English exam. Ah, what memories. For some reason, I still remember the essay I wrote for that one, 22 years ago. (Discuss the author's use of time in one the novel in a list, or something of comparable quality - I picked "Wuthering Heights", which was not on their list).

Is it time to be planting stuff outside already? My little sprouts are not up to it yet. (Except the corn, which as dicussed elsewhere, moved outside in April. It is dong fine, about twice as high as it was when I planted it). I guess if my sprouts are still looking lame in a week or two, the kiddos and I are off to the farmer's market to get tons of cool plants (heirloom tomatoes, Thai peppers, e. g.), and Home Depot for a few boring standard ones too.

As for whining--of course I don't whine at you for not posting on your blog. You update very frequently. ;)

I'd gotten behind on reading it (I read the entries when you posted them, but not the comments. Mistake - you have a very interesting and articulate group of commenters here at "Rattlesnake Central"!)

I have not been to Leaky recently, but it must be a sight to see. I have an HP friend, completely pro Jo, who hopes SVA/RDR lose big because she considers the book "theft". She visited the site, and her comments on Leaky? She can't believe the level of antagonism and rudeness of what is posted there. If she were running the place, she's be handing out warnings in handfuls, and plenty to pro Jo posters. That convinced me I want to stay away, lol.

I can barely keep up with reading the comments myself! I never had this many until now, but obviously people have alot saved up to talk about.

That's interesting that you remember you AP exam so vividly! My son took a practice test a few months ago and scored a 5 (is that the highest?). Ironically, my daughter never scored higher than a 4, though her grades in English were alot better. So John's teacher made a snarky comment about "who knew?" that someone who had a bad quiz grade could suddenly bring up the class score average, lol. My son is so much like Harry when it comes to school, except that he likes to read, so I have hope for college.

I thought this journal was only set up for the court case. lol

I’m starting Season 5 of Buffy and Season 2 of Angel. There is always a new fandom around the corner.

I have some good friends who love Buffy so much they convinced me to watch it, and I'm really glad they did because it's so enjoyable to watch and great television!

My favorite song from my favorite episode of one of my favorite shows. Thanks!

Oh good! :) I love the lyrics - that whole episode is really fun to watch. I'm such a fan so maybe I should post more Buffy related stuff.

I've been watching Doctor Who with [info]cynodd, but as soon as she's caught up on that (we're almost done with series 1 of the New Who, but I've seen them all previously), we'll have to move on to Buffy! :-D

Re: Spike Sings a Song
Good call! You'll enjoy it - it's campy like Dr. Who and it all has a sort of logic of its own.

hehehe, Buffy the Vampire slayer never has been my favorite,
but Spike made up a lot.

I think that in character he had a lot in common with Snape, althrough in appearance complete opposite.

I could be wrong, because I never sat through episodes as thorough as through HP.

He's alot like Snape because he's got a demon inside him and knows just what to say to scare people, but he's also got this human/poetic side. He and Buffy are like Snape/Lily only with a real relationship - if you never watch anything else, watch the last two seasons, because Spike changes alot as a character, and so does Buffy.

Re: Time Off
Aw, thanks! I'm having trouble staying away - my son went off with his friends for the afternoon, and now it's raining so the gardening didn't work out.

But I do have a clearer head after a little rest. :)

Oh, you more than deserve a break from all this research and commentary - Lol, you could probably write your own work of scholarship on the trial itself.

I've seen one or two episodes of Buffy and found it a little too dramatic for my tastes, but that brief Spike performance has me alternately raising my eyebrows in disbelief and choking with laughter. And the instant he drops to his knees, mumbling something about "one enslaved" and that vulnerable look climbs onto her face - how can anyone, however cynical, not react to that?

Enjoy your gardening! And good luck to your son with APs. :)

Spike says "You know, you've got a willing slave" and he really is, lol. I couldn't find the complete scene, so they left out a funny line. - When Spike pops back out of the grave at the end, after all that tough talk in his song, he watches her run away and then says, "I guess this means you won't be staying?" :)

Spike has some of the funniest lines, but also the most beautiful lines. He is a truly great ambiguous character, just like Snape.

My daughter took the AP english exam today too. She has one more next week (macroeconomics)but still a month of school. We have the prom next week which has me feeling like I should get the flowers planted out front for the pictures and all. I am a bit behind on a few things.

My son told me it was pretty easy - I told him it ought to be easy after 12 years of school! At least he knows his adverbs, haha - I drummed those into him in fourth grade.

Prom is all over for us, thank goodness! We get out of school so early because they started back in the middle of last August. That seems ages ago.

Indeed - it's been nice. But I'm never entirely gone because I can't resist checking in and reading comments. But definitely less stress today.

Buffy! Yay! ;) I'm such a geek, I actually bought the CD when that episode aired, I liked the music so much.

Wow - it would be awesome to have a CD of that!

I only own Seasons 5-7 on DVD. But the other day I found the DVD of Spike Episodes at my used bookstore, and it has the one where Spike first comes to town ("School Hard"). What surprised me was that the character really stayed consistent all the way through, and I think that's because James Marsters is just a genius.

Oh, I adored that show. I own the entire series (although the last year wasn't so great, in my mind). It's really quite witty - I love the jokes and Joss Whedon and the other writers' brand of humor. I was lucky enough to be able to visit the set when it was on the air (the executive producer was an alumnus of my university and our local alumni chapter had an event at the Buffy lot.)

Have you ever seen 'Firefly'? It's another Whedon show that was only on the air for a year. It's Sci-Fi and fabulous! It's worth a rental to check it out. ;)
