'Sic Semper Tyrannis' (Thus be to tyrants)
~ John Wilkes Booth, while leaping into Abraham Lincoln's balcony to shoot him

Assassination is the extreme form of censorship.
~ George Bernard Shaw

Even the President so far, he can't walk in my house without being invited, like he's my daddy, just to say whoa. Not yet! . . . But people are dead now. And it's so hot. Without it even being August yet. Anyways, I seen him fall. I was evermore the one.
~ Nameless Assassin in the Eudora Welty story Where is the Voice Coming From based on the 1963 killing of Medgar Evers, civil-rights activist and NAACP secretary, in Mississippi. In 1994, KKK member Byron De La Beckwith was charged for a third time and found guilty of the assassination, which was later the subject of the movie Ghosts of Mississippi.

To do SOMETHING BOLD AND DRAMATIC , FORCEFUL & DYNAMIC, A STATEMENT of my manhood for the world to see.
~ Arthur Bremer, would-be "Assasinator" of Richard Nixon and George Wallace, whom he shot and paralyzed in 1972, quoted on PBS: The American Experience

Guns are neat little things, aren't they? They can kill extraordinary people with very little effort.
~ John W. Hinckley, Jr, who made a failed 1981 assassination attempt on President Ronald Reagan

Obama, he’s a piece of sh-t, and I told him to suck on my machine gun … Hey Hillary, you might want to ride one of these into the sunset, you worthless b—t … Any questions? Freeeeeeeeeeeedom!!!!!”
~ Ted Nugent on stage in 2007, quoted in EW's List of Ted Nugent's Most Outlandish Quotes

I'll tell you this right now: If Barack Obama becomes the president in November, again, I will either be dead or in jail by this time next year. We need to ride into that battlefield and chop their heads off in November. Any questions? ...(if you don't) get everybody in your lives to clean house in this vile, evil, America-hating administration, I don't even know what you're made out of....If the coyote's in your living room, pissing on your couch, it's not the coyote's fault. It's your fault for not shooting him.
~ Ted Nugent in April 2012, speaking to the NRA, quoted on Yahoo News

We are aware of the incident and we are conducting appropriate follow-up.
~ Secret Service Head, Brian Leary, also quoted by Yahoo News

The Romney campaign told NBC News that, contrary to Nugent’s claims, they ‘never solicited his endorsement,’ although clearly, they were pleased about it at the time.
~ MSNBC's Andrea Mitchell, quoting the Romney campaign Here

And, let it not be forgotten that this particular PoS once adopted a Hawaiian 17 year old girl because, to paraphrase his comment at the time, he'd have a better legal chance being arrested for incest than for statutory rape.

I'm still waiting for Mittens to distance himself from this dangerous wingnut. But then again, this type of over the top hate talk is a hallmark of the Republican party, thanks to t heir unholy alliance with the extreme right wing.

Lincoln and Eisenhower must be twirling in their graves.

The NRA has taken the video down, and everyone on the Right is distancing themselves from the Nuge.

Not so much Romney. Nope, he's low-rating a Republican small businessman's cookies by saying they're 7-11 cookies, and he didn't trust them.

Way to go, Mittens.

(Moved my post so I could stay in the thread)

I love Cookiegate - it's the most awkward thing I've ever seen. My new theory is that Romney is just rude and goes sailing through life being insensitive.

Nugent just makes me feel sick! :( This guy was giving Romney advice just a few days before this hit the fan, and Romney was agreeing with everything he said! So now he's afraid to distance himself, so is doing his regular innocent bystander thing.

I just saw the stuff today about Nugent being a pedophile. I never listened to his dreadful music so I had no ideas that his lyrics said "I don't mind if you're thirteen." How can anyone take up for this guy?

The only good thing is that the Republican support in the private sector is dwindling, with corporations yanking their money out of ALEC for instance, and Rush having to move to smaller radio stations. I have to wonder if most of the Republicans out in the heartland meant to give so much power to absolute cretins, or did they not know just how bad it was?

I had to turn off the TV tonight during a discussion of cutting services for the poorest Americans. When I hear that, I know my own parents are rolling over in their graves. Paul Ryan and Eric Cantor are just evil and the Democrats have got to find some lungs and start shouting them down.

WSJ: Romney's Cookie Comment Bites
“I’m not sure about these cookies,” Mr. Romney said. “They don’t look like you made them,” he said turning to one of the women at the table. “Did you make those cookies? You didn’t, did you? No. No. They came from the local 7-Eleven bakery or wherever.”

The cookies, in fact, were donated from the popular Bethel Bakery around the corner from the community center, and once Mr. Romney’s comment was broadcast on local airwaves offended residents took to Facebook and Twitter to complain. The episode was inevitably called “CookieGate.” The bakery is offering a CookieGate special Wednesday and Thursday: free half dozen cookies with every dozen purchased.

“Initially, we were incensed that he would think that Bethel Bakery is comparable to the 7-Eleven,” said bakery owner John Walsh, a Republican. Mr. Walsh, whose parents opened the bakery in 1955, said he thinks the comment was made in jest and would like Gov. Romney to try the bakery’s offerings in the future. But some bitterness remained. “Let him eat cake next time,” Mr. Walsh said.
